We've got a busy weekend coming up, we're visiting Come By The Hills on Saturday August 18th then we'll be back at Bear Creek Folk Festival on Sunday August 19th.

June 4th: Summer Plans

Things have been a little quiet over here for the start of the year but we have plans to travel around Alberta and BC this summer! Our Shows page has just been updated with our summer dates!

January 4th: Edmonton Music Prize Finalist

We were delighted to find out we are a finalist for the Edmonton Music Prize. Congrats to Nuela Charles and Dan Davidson also! The winner is announced on January 30th. Thanks to the City of Edmonton, Edmonton Arts Council and Alberta Music for sponsoring and administering the prize. 


December 20th: Christmas Fundraiser at The Empress Ale House

Thanks to everyone that came to our annual fundraiser at The Empress, we raised a staggering $3350 for Edmonton charity Making Strides. Thanks for all your generosity and especially to The Empress who made a hefty donation of their own. Merry Christmas everyone!

November 7th: Alberta Grown Music Series - Sunday December 3rd

We're excited to have our first hometown show for quite some time! We're playing as part of a wonderful new collection of shows called the Alberta Grown Music Series on Sunday December 3rd (NEW DATE) at The Centre for Spiritual Living. Tickets available below, there is free parking and free childcare!

September 22nd: Canadian Folk Music Awards Nomination

What a lovely surprise! We found out we were nominated for 'Ensemble of the Year' for Hiraeth at this years Canadian Folk Music Awards. The awards take place in Ottawa on November 18th/19th. Congrats to fellow Edmontonians Scott Cook and Braden Gates.


September 17th: Winner of WCMA for Roots Duo/Group of the Year!


We were honoured to win a WCMA for Roots Duo/Group of the Year. It was a lovely surprise and a great way to cap a really special summer. Thanks to everyone who's made this past year so special.

September 12th: Breakout West in Edmonton


We'll be playing an unofficial Breakout West showcase this Saturday at The Empress Ale House with The Hearts, Vissia and Todd Stewart.

August 23rd: Bear Creek Folk Festival

We could not have asked for a better weekend to finish off our summer than Bear Creek Folk Festival up in Grand Prairie. What a gem of a festival they have created, anyone looking for a new adventure next summer should definitely check it out.

We've had a really special couple of months traveling this beautiful country, thanks to all the festival goers, organisers, volunteers and fellow musicians who made this a summer we'll never forget. We'll be heading to Breakout West in a couple of weeks, hopefully see some of you there.


August 15th: Edmonton Folk Fest!

Thanks Edmonton Folk Festival for a magical weekend! St Paul an The Broken Bones were the perfect ending! There's nothing like playing your hometown festival. This weekend we finish our summer at Bear Creek Folk Festival in Grand Prairie!

August 2nd: Calgary Folk Fest!

Wow! Thank you Calgary Folk Fest for a sensational weekend. That's one we'll never forget. Too many highlights to even list. From introducing some of our favourite artists to workshops that left us with beaming hearts. That island and the people who head there every July will always hold a special place in our hearts. Thank you.

July 18th: Thank you Winnipeg Folk Fest!

We had a really special weekend at Winnipeg Folk Fest. Thanks to everyone who listened and said hello, we'll have some new shirts in our store over the next couple of weeks for those who missed out! While we were there we chatted with Tracy Koga from Shaw TV about the fest. Next up is Calgary Folk Music Festival

We're really excited to be visiting some of our favourite festivals and I imagine some new gems too. We feel pretty lucky getting to see so much of this beautiful country doing what we love to do. Tickets and more details can be found here.

June 1st: Edmonton Folk Music Music Festival

We're so very excited to be back at Edmonton Folk Fest this summer! Look at that lineup! Our summer plans are almost complete, looking forward to hitting the road and visiting friends new and old. We'll have our full list of dates up this week.

May 1st: Calgary Folk Music Festival, Bear Creek Folk Festival and WCMA Nomination

We'll be heading back to one of our favourite festivals this year. Calgary Folk Fest is always a highlight of our summer. We'll also be traveling to Grand Prairie to play the second Bear Creek Folk Festival, we've heard wonderful things about this new festival.

We were also extremely honoured to find out we were nominated for Roots/Duo Group of the Year at the Western Canadian Music Awards! You can find the full list of nominees here.

April 4th: Fort Mac Anniversary Show and Edmonton Music Award Nominations


On Sunday April 30th, the one year anniversary of the Fort Mac wildfires, we'll be playing a special show in the Pehonan Theatre at the Alberta Legislature for the ATB All-Albertan Song Contest. We were lucky enough to win the 2016 competition with our song 'Run' about a family leaving Fort Mac and for our winning performance we're excited to be able to put on a free show in Alberta's capital.

We were also excited to find out we've been nominated for 3 Edmonton Music Awards, Album of the Year, Group of the Year and Roots/Folk Album of the Year. Check out the full list below, there is some wonderful music being created in this fair city.

March 15th: Key City Theatre, Cranbrook and High Notes Music Festival, Panorama

We're heading out on little trip this weekend stopping in at The Key City Theatre in Cranbrook on the 15th and the High Notes Music Festival in Panorama on the 17th and 18th.

March 9th: 2017 Winnipeg Folk Fest

We're excited to be heading to Winnipeg Folk Fest this year! We've long heard wonderful stories of the place so look forward to making the trek east. Clikc on the image below to check out the line up.


February 14th: CBC's The Key of A live at The Needle Vinyl Tavern Feb. 23

On Thursday, Feb. 23, the Key of A is recording four live bands at one of Edmonton's newest venues, The Needle. Starting at 7:30 p.m. you'll hear sets by Edmonton Music Prize finalist Mohsin Zaman, the new duo Goldtop, Nature Of and us! For tickets click here, it promises to be a special evening. 


January 17th: Vibe at The Art Gallery of Alberta Friday January 20th

We'll be playing a couple of sets this Friday at The Art Gallery of Alberta as part of their Vibe series. Music starts at 5:30 pm with our good friend Lucas Chaisson.

December 9th: 'Run' wins the All-Albertan Song Contest

Wow! Our song 'Run' about the Fort Mac wildfires won the 2016 All-Albertan Song Contest. Thanks to ATB Financial for running the contest, we were honoured to win first place out of 166 entries!

We also had a lovely chat with Great Dark Wonder about the new record that you can read here and the peeps over at Grayowl Point had some lovely things to say about the new disc here.

December 8th: All-Albertan Songwriting Contest, CKUA No.1 and Penguin Eggs Front Cover

We’ve been really touched by the response ‘Hiraeth’ has received. After 2 weeks in second place it reached No.1 on the CKUA Top 30 this week! You can see the full chart here. We're so lucky to have such a supportive and mighty station in our home province! Its also No.13 on the National !Earshot Chart.

Our song ‘Run’ is one of 6 finalists in the All-Albertan Song Contest. You can listen sand vote here. Voting closes at 8:30 am MT tomorrow when the winners will be announced live on the air on CKUA. Not long left, head over and cast your vote now!

Now the dust is finally beginning to settle on a wonderful weekend of shows we wanted to say thank you to everyone of you who came out or has taken the time to listen to the new record. Those were some evenings that will live long in the memory.

November 20th: Hiraeth No.2 on CKUA!

Hiraeth is No.2 on the mighty CKUA this week and we got the chance to sit down and play a few songs for Grant Stovel in the CKUA Music Library.

Peter Stone and Denise MacKay drop by CKUA's historic LP library to debut tracks from their new album 'Hiraeth'. The album deals with the loss of a loved one, and the struggles of trying to start a family.

November 18th: New Album 'Hiraeth' Released Today!

Our new album Hiraeth is finally released today. You can join us to celebrate this weekend in Edmonton or Calgary (tickets above.)

This album managed to simultaneously ignite our passions while kicking our ass. There were laughs shared and tears shed. We're so happy to finally share it with you. You can head over to our store and get your vinyl or CD or get it digitally on iTunes here. Pippa thinks you'll really enjoy it.


November 13th: Hiraeth Video

Today we release the video for the title track from our new album Hireath. While doing research for the new album we came across a beautiful video by filmmaker Trent Jaklitsch from Brooklyn, New York with the same title. The imagery and movements lined up perfectly with the track. He was kind enough to let us use it with the song, his video is a beautiful piece of art, it has been selected as a ‘Staff Pick’ on Vimeo, we hope you enjoy it.
